Dylan’s Story: Being part of a team
We encourage people from all backgrounds to sign up to our apprenticeship programmes no matter what stage of life they’re at. Dylan Wilson joined The Learning Foundry straight from high school. Since then, he has completed his Level 2 Customer Service apprenticeship, and started a second qualification in Level 3 Business Administration. He’s now employed as a Repairs Planner Improver at M&Y Maintenance and Construction where he’s in charge of his own district and seven Repairs Operatives.
We caught up with Dylan and his supervisor at M&Y, Jessica Jones, to talk about his experience with The Learning Foundry:
“When I finished school I started looking for apprenticeships and The Learning Foundry really stuck out to me. Even from their description, they made it sound like I would be part of a team and supported along the way.
“From the very start, The Learning Foundry helped me develop my career. I always felt that I could approach my tutors, and ring them at any time if I needed any help or support.
“It was always different to school because I had my own independence whilst knowing I could access support whenever I felt like I needed it.
“The Learning Foundry taught me so much that I can now use in my current role. Speaking to customers is so important for my job and learning with TLF gave me all the skills and confidence to talk to all kinds of different kinds of people.
“Even though I’ve already done two courses with The Learning Foundry, I would keep on learning if I got the opportunity. I hope to keep using the skills I’ve learnt to work my way up at M&Y and hopefully become a manager one day.”
Jessica Jones, Planning Manager at M&Y, and Dylan’s supervisor supports his managerial aspirations:
“I have seen a huge improvement in Dylan since he first started his apprenticeship. He was always willing to receive training and put the work in.
“He is now an excellent written and verbal communicator, doing everything he had been taught and more.
“Dylan has shown drive and dedication from the beginning, putting the work in to get where he wants to be.
“With his skills and motivation, I believe he will get to the top one day.”
