How the training space is changing - Study Programmes
In December 2022, the Department for Education made the decision to integrate the Traineeship programme into 16-19 study programme and adult education provision. From 1st August 2023, all further traineeships were divided into these existing criteria.
What is a study programme?
A study programme supports the development and progression of 16-19 year olds in line with their career plans. Study programmes are tailored to specific employable sectors but typically combines the following elements:
- Relevant sector based qualifications to prepare learners for the next steps in their career journey – whether that is further education or employment,
- English and maths, where learners have not yet achieved a GCSE grade 4,
- Work experience to give learners the opportunity to develop their career choices and to apply their skills in real working conditions,
- Activities to build learners’ broader skill sets, attitude and confidence.
But what does this mean?
All the elements of the Traineeship programme - English and maths, work experience, employability and occupational skills, and qualifications - will continue to be funded for 16-19 year olds as part of the national 16-19 study programme, and for adults through the adult education budget.
Providers with access to private funding can continue to provide traineeships if relevant, however, all of the relevant skills, knowledge and behaviours should be accessible through study programmes or adult education provisions.
What does this mean for The Learning Foundry?
Learners that started traineeships before 1st August 2023 will continue as normal. After this point, learners aged 16-19 will enrol onto one of our many study programmes, and learners aged 19+ will be able to access our adult education courses.
We offer our study programmes and our adult education courses in a broad range of employable sectors, from construction to catering and with the same aim of making talent shine and getting people to where they want to be.
