Property Maintenance Operatives (PMO) work in the construction and built environment sector and ensure that buildings are kept in a safe working condition Effe ctive property maintenance is vital for private and social housing, for general day-to-day maintenance and responsive repairs, keeping properties in a good state of repair and optimal quality or performance.
Property Maintenance Operatives must understand a range of trade skills, the key principles of buildings and their construction and the range of building services that support a buildings operation. That’s why they are a Property Maintenance Operative apprenticeship is a great way to start a career in construction, and a great way for organisations to gr ow and develop their teams.
How is an apprenticeship different to a job?
So, how will being a Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship different to just working in construction?
Property Maintenance Operatives s pend four days per week in the workplace, out and about on site, providing effective and efficient repairs.
One day per week, apprentices are ‘off-the-job' at our Skills Centre with one of our experienced Development Coaches, learning up-to-date best practices in plastering, tiling or carpentry.
Over 24 months, PMO apprentices gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to deliver high quality maintenance tasks and responsive repairs – as well as delivering an excellent customer service when they are interacting with customers or tenants in their homes.
Apprentices get paid a wage while they are working and training.
Where can I work as a Property Maintenance Operative apprentice?
Property Maintenance Operatives are responsible for conducting routine maintenance tasks, and minor planned and responsive repair works . This means t heir skills are needed across a range of industries including :

Do I get a qualification in Property Maintenance?
As part of a Property Maintenance Operative apprentice, learners gain a Level 2 Certificate. To achieve this qualification, learners will complete an End Point Assessment - this includes a practical assessment with multiple choice questions, an interview and a portfolio of evidence .
How do Property Maintenance Operatives impact the environment?
As part of their everyday work, Property Maintenance Operatives help to optimise of building performance and reduce environmental impact.
They need to record and report building information digitally, and consider sustainability and environmental choices, such as the use, recycling, and disposal of materials and components, in order to achieve net-zero carbon emissions.
