The Learning Foundry want me to succeed - Mia's story

Mia has been a learner with The Learning Foundry for over two years. She came to us after realising college wasn’t for her and was looking for what to do next – which is really common for a lot of our young people!

Since joining us, she excelled in our ‘Picture Your Future’ traineeship and is now thriving in her Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship in her role as Sales Apprentice at StayCity Aparthotels. We caught up with Mia and her supervisor Marian, to hear a bit more of her story. Here’s what she had to say:

Learning from a piece of paper is just not for me. I really didn’t enjoy learning at college and the course wasn’t right for me either. While I was there, I saw a sign for The Learning Foundry…

I didn’t know what I wanted to do. The ‘Picture Your Future’ traineeship was ideal to show me all the options that were out there and now I’m in a role I love.

My tutors at The Learning Foundry have always been supportive and understanding. They have been there for me, even with things in my personal life.

Tutors visit every few weeks to check my progress and I know that they are always only a phone call away.

They want me to succeed. I’ve had the chance to re-sit my maths exams whilst doing my apprenticeship. I feel like the staff do everything they can to make sure I have everything I need to succeed in the future.

My confidence has grown so much since starting with The Learning Foundry. Now I can speak to all kinds of different customers every day, I’m comfortable with learning new systems and I attend events and represent my company, StayCity. After I finish my apprenticeship, I want to go travelling and work in branches across the world.

I’ve even started hosting my own apprenticeship events! I think it’s important that young people know about all the apprenticeship options available because school isn’t for everyone.

I am making a change to the place where I work. I was the first apprentice at StayCity and now they’re trying to get an apprentice in every one of their buildings.

To any thinking of learning with TLF: go, go, go! Why wouldn’t you want to learn where people support you, care about you and want you to succeed?

Marian Cotter, Sales Manager at StayCity Aparthotels, acknowledges Mia’s growth in confidence:

Mia is amazing. She’s able to cope with all elements of the busy, hospitality environment and can think on her feet.

She is amazing running her networking events. She can speak easily in front of people about her experience and inspires other young people from difficult backgrounds to think about taking on an apprenticeship.

I wouldn’t choose anyone else other than The Learning Foundry. Staff know exactly what they are doing and make sure learners are doing what they need to do.

We’re so proud of you, Mia – we can’t wait to see what you get up to next!
