“TLF supported me all the way” - Millie’s Story
As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we caught up with Millie Ball, a traineeship and apprenticeship star with The Learning Foundry. Millie progressed from her Level 2 traineeship in Customer Service to achieving Distinctions across the board in her Level 3 Business Admin course. Millie has now secured herself a role as an Insurance Assistant at The Regenda Group. She says “TLF supported me all the way”. Here she tells us about her time at The Learning Foundry and the opportunities she’s been able to access.
"What I liked about The Learning Foundry was that it wasn’t like a school environment. When I finished school, I knew I didn’t want to go to college - and The Learning Foundry is nothing like school or college. Teaching is done in small groups which made the whole experience more engaging and made me feel more comfortable asking questions during lessons.
"I was given help and support I wouldn’t have been given in college. We had lots of mock interviews and help putting together our CVs. We did a bit of work on CVs in school, but it was nothing like the help I was given at The Learning Foundry. They helped me pass my maths GCSE, which I don’t think I could’ve done without them.
"I would recommend TLF to anyone who is struggling with what to do after finishing school. Everyone at the Learning Foundry is lovely and supportive. You can access so many opportunities; The Learning Foundry arranged for me to take part in work experience at another housing organisation before accepting my current role at The Regenda Group.
"I want to progress in my current role and find out more about different aspects of the business. Throughout my apprenticeship, I was able to shadow my colleagues in different teams, allowing me to see what life is like in other departments. With the skills I learnt with The Learning Foundry, I have the confidence to progress and try new things."
Kathy Chisholm, Curriculum Manager at The Learning Foundry says: “Millie has made a significant difference to her team in developing her project management skills. She has been a real success for the business adding value to the team, managing time, supporting the team, working within budgets, being a role model and coaching staff. This is also a great testament for Nicola O’Brien, who has put in significant time and support with Millie throughout her apprenticeship programme.”
Millie has a bright future ahead of her, keep smashing it!
